yesterday, waking up

It's been brought to my attention that I've been posting senryu, not haiku. I'd completely forgotten that there was a distinction (in fact, if you'd asked me I would have said a senryu was a tanka and not known what a tanka was; and even now I was confusing a tanka and a renga (corrected), though that can partially be blamed on just waking up (and limited exposure). :)

{{ the master happened to be a small dragon (or a cricket?); everyone else looked on in horror. I made the turtle puke (with my hands), but there was nothing in there but bile and empty turtle shells (the size of sake glasses). I left the (gated) court looking for somewhere to wash my hands. Woke up not quite wanting to touch my alarm (which apparently I had set for PM instead of AM, so it's a good thing I woke up before it). }}

#rejection from @outshine both thoughtful and thorough. Looking forward to their reopen Jul 6. Someone remind me? #writing #twitfic

I haven't recovered from you explanation of the different terms. So how about

dreams of haiku
turtle swallows star player
student eats senryu

I have a better idea. Do one for my icon...

Probably because I didn't explain anything, just tossed them out. ;) :heheh:

Do you remember when people just wrote poems :)

:heh: Back when I was 8 or 9? Nah, for the most part I still just write poems (when I write). But fitting a form like haiku/senryu is a nice way to feel like I've accomplished something on a time budget ;)

See, I've been biting my tongue on the haiku/senryu thing. I mentioned it to you ... hrm. More than two years ago. Figured you were just trying to avoid confusion on the Ranker, as 97% of people don't know the difference.

:heh: Yeah. I knew it a while ago. And I still knew a proper haiku dealt with seasons/nature, but that wasn't making itself loud enough in my head.

On the ranker, definitely trying to avoid confusion (is there a term that encompasses both haiku and senryu?). Well, and I just don't ... fiddle ... with the ranker much anymore.

Sorry for the anguish. :)

Have you heard of Cinquains? It's a 5-line poem that has syllables of 2, 4, 6, 8, and 2. There's also a Cinq-cinquain which is 5 of them put together. I just remembered that I did them in elementary school and spent yesterday toying around with some. My favourite one was this:

on the road. What is it?

Wow. I've been meaning to reply to this for two weeks now--sorry. I'd heard of Cinquains but not that particular form. It looks like a very fun challenge. I hope to give it a go :)

That's a funny one. :)

Hey, I have a question about GUD:

In the print version, is the font also sans serif? I'm doing a 3-5 page review on it for class, looking at both design and content.

Thanks. I'm enjoying it so far!

It is--the PDF is exactly what we send to the printer, except the printer gets higher-res artwork and the cover is handled as a separate file. :)

I'd love to see what you put together for class! :)

Awesome! I'll post a shorter version on this blog, and I can e-mail you the longer one if you wish! I'll be focusing a lot on how you have the magazine both online and in print, and try to recommend it for Arroyo.

Re: paypal for Arroyo - We don't have one yet, but we're going to try and get it on Amazon hopefully soon. We should have printed more copies though, since Issue one is almost half gone! We only printed 500, which in restropect wasn't such a good idea.

That's an impressive circulation for a first issue, imo. You'll have to give me tips!

And I'd love to see the longer one. :) Need to get back to reading LJ. Time has been all over the place. This week I've actually been writing!
