some art?

It looks like crap as a thumbnail... detail is important, and it's abstract, to boot...

just 6 layers in photoshop, maybe 30 minutes, maybe an hour. Started because I wanted to finally understand the trick of generating "lightning" in photoshop. It really spiraled out from there. It'd been forever since I did some 2d abstract photoshop art for its own (and my own) sake...

What was the original image? I think it would be neat for you to post one of each - like a before and after.

I like to mess around with photoshop and more so, illustrator. I LOVE illustrator. ANYWAYS, i love to look at images that were created and learn about them.

LOOKS AWESOME BTW

Re: art
Howdy, and thanks--mind if I ask how you came across it? :)

There wasn't an original image, though I could show you the layers I did.

Do you know the "lightning" trick in photoshop? Drop a linear gradient (white to black, generally), do a difference clouds, invert, level adjust (middle bar all the way to the right).

Started with that idea, but went with a spherical gradient instead, which gave a nice little lightning-esque ring. That's basically where it all started... hard to say where it went from there, though.

I remember a radial blur, layer duplication, a blur, sumi-e, ... and then stuff got complicated (not function-wise, but trying to flip through options and very small changes that made drastic changes to the overall image). Eventually dropped a fibers in the background, and zig-zagged them...

One adjustment layer on top to try to fine-tune the hue...

Anyway, hope that feeds your curiosity some, and thanks for asking. :)

I like the colors and the visible brush strokes. Really the colors do it for me :)

I worked hard on those colors--and the texture--I appreciate the comments on both. :)

Kinda cool that I managed to get texture in there that looks like brush strokes. That might be the sumi-e? I didn't do anything more ... on purpose ... than dropping a few spheres the effects of which are fairly subtle. :) The rest was all functions. :)

that's really cool! i don't think i know enough about photoshop to make something like that. i even think the thumbnail looks good.

Thanks :) I probably couldn't make something like it if I tried, but you never know what'll happen just tinkering around. ;)

Explained bits of what I did in a comment above, if you're curious. :)
