Too much of a GUD thing?

I've been brainless today, and I spent good chunks, between angry rants about this or that, promoting GUD.

Just wanted to make a little list of places I do this (though I didn't do all of this today, of course). Of course.

MySpace: the majority of our non-writer traffic (i.e. not Duotrope and not Ralan's) has come from here
Yuwie: a MySpace clone that promises to share ad revenues. Worth a shot, right? And if you sign up with that code in that link there, GUD gets extra kudos of some sort, somehow.
FaceBook: a friend told me this was worth trying, and that the connections, while less spammable, are stronger, and more interactive--and as such would be more likely to actually check GUD out.
Gather: another social site that offers rewards for using it. And this link has a reward built in--$20 borders gift certificate if 5 people sign up through it. That'd be a lovely random prize for GUD to regift, wouldn't it? Here I mainly repost GUD's reviews and raffles.

It's been suggested I use LinkedIn for GUD promotion as well, but I don't get it well enough. And I did a little promotion on deviantart, but that didn't seem to really hook as well as I would have liked. And I've promoted on a number of LJ communities, of course, of course.

And of course, this doesn't count the myriad writing sites/forums/etc. Scrawl, Zoetrope, crittersbar (versus critters), backspace, absolutewrite, and many, many more...

Out of all of the above, if you were bored and wanted to create accounts on yuwie and gather through those links, that would be kind of spiff. Or it could be, at least. :) And I'm open to suggestions, of course, though I need to cut back at the same time.

That is a lot of work. oi.

Have you thought about buying some advertising in magazines that you like?

work I have in more flexible amount than money--I don't have a signed contract with Amy saying I can't spend more than x hours to make GUD happen. ;) But we have gotten ads in a handful of related magazines. Hard to say if we've gotten any real response to those--F&SF, ASIM, and (at some point) Apex Digest.

Writing a friendscraper for yuwie right now ;)

I might be off as I'm not keyed up all that well on the zine publishing world...but you might consider putting an ad in Sun Magazine. It's similar to GUD in the sense that there is not particular genre involved...I think. But lots of great writers. I think it's based out of the North East.
