Hmm
My initial response is dubious. I don't like seeing that much government control in one place.

On the other hand, it would be hard to take care of that many people, and maybe tight-assed government regulations are a solution (if not an ideal solution). The government is afraid of the poor, as are many of us. (Though I will note I helped serve food at the church community kitches on Labor Day and everyone was very polite and we were very glad we could serve them).

The article seems to me to say that people are not required to stay there, but if they leave the camp, then they can't come back in and are on their own. That seems a little extreme to me. The kitchen regulation stuff also seems ridiculous. If it was found out that people couldn't leave the camp, I'd be outraged, but that's not what I got out of the article. What I got was a freaked-out government trying a very heavy-handed method of dealing with people and assuming they're incompetent to take care of themselves. I dunno. We'll see how events develop. I don't believe this is a work camp, though, and hysterics should be avoided. At least, not yet.
