rejection -- A Torn Leaf

A Torn Leaf EspressoFicti Dec 03 '05 rejected Feb 15, 2006

Dear Kaolin,

Thank you for submitting your work A Torn Leaf to Espresso FICTION. I have read your submission with interest and thought about it carefully. Unfortunately, however, I'm afraid it is not suitable for our site at this time.

I'm unable to comment on the reasons why your story is unsuitable for Espresso Fiction. I know it is frustrating but there simply aren't enough hours in the day to comment on each and every one of the many submissions that we get. However, just because its not right for us doesn't mean that other publications will not be interested. The best advice I can give is to keep honing your skills, read as widely and as much as you can and regularly submit your work to suitable publications. There are many good editorial services around if you want detailed feedback on your writing.

Espresso Fiction is not looking for any particular genre. What we are mainly interested in is the story itself - the quality of the writing, how the story flows, the opening grab, the pace, the ending - there are so many things that go into a good short story and all of those facets must come together in order to provide a satisfying read. While these components are important for any short story it is even more imperative in the case of Espresso Fiction because we are targetting people who don't have a lot of time and will not stay with a story that doesn't immediately engage.

Thank you again for contacting us and I would like to wish you success in placing your work elsewhere.
