yoga morning

I've been thinking about keeping track of my mood swings. Or more just making more notes of them so I can track them later when I'm more curious--because I am curious from time to time and notice that I'm really not sure where I've been. Of course in the same breath I can switch between three moods, and back again, so it's hard to find and _notice_ the prevailing tendencies until 'much later'.

Went to bed ... late last night, though I'm not quite sure when. The last time I remember seeing was 3:30, and I think that was shortly before going to bed; though really that could be a fabricated memory. :/ I was woken up by yowling cats two hours and eight hours later. Woke up at 1 or 2pm feeling wholly ... miserable of body. Puttered around. Puttered around some more. Had a bagel. Finished a book. Reminded myself multiple times that I was supposed to do a yoga dvd.

Did the yoga dvd; first time trying this one after having it recommended; first time exercising in weeks. Months, probably.

It was much harder than any of the previous yoga dvds I'd tried. Heart rate went up quickly and stayed there. Muscles strained but never collapsed. Just did the 30 minutes a.m. section. If I can do that daily, I'll be rocking. Rock rock rocking. My hair will probably hate me, though (it really dislikes daily showers; then again, it likes them better when I've been sweaty, so maybe it will forgive).

I can't believe it's 5pm already. That's a lot of puttering. zzinnia says that, to paraphrase and perhaps slant, the rockhound saloon page might not be pure crap after the 8 more hours I spent tweaking it last night. Really starting to understand photoshop's slices. Would totally prefer to do the site, as stands, with css instead of tables so that other people could choose wildly different layouts... but I'm not sure how to do that. :/ Maybe with lots of pre and post markers? Probably need to cut the menu up into individual slices instead of the imagemap that it currently is. Bah.

I'd been looking for the 'done right' all this time. ;) Seriously tried three or four other videos, and while they were stretchy and muscle-buildy, none of them raised my heartrate any. Hoping this was not an isolated incident. ;)

Well, my yoga class always tired me out, and I'm not in the greatest shape, but... :)

Tired out doesn't necessarily mean aerobic exercise, though.

Waking up, I think I'm too sore to do it this morning. If not tomorrow, then certainly the day after. Ow ow ow ow ow. :)

I think to some degree, "aerobic" and "anaerobic" activities are specious termns. I know, scientifically I'm off the mark, but I just think that if you're getting what your body needs, I wouldn't worry about the labels.

Did the exercise feel like something it would be good for you to repeat?

The exercise felt like something it would be good to repeat. AND, as it was aerobic == my heart rate was increased to a certain level so as to increase metabolism, I think I can consider it part of a weightloss routine versus just "getting in shape" (i.e. muscletoning/musclebuilding)

Hey you! Sounds like you've been super productive recently and to some degree are paying the price.

As for yoga-as-cardio - it can be done. For example, sun salutations, if done with one breath per posture (i.e. in-out-move) can be *VERY* aerobic.

As for tracking mood, an interesting exercise is to give your moods a rating where 1 = 9th circle of hell suicidal ideation, and 10 = the happiest day of your life. Jot your numbers down during the day, give yourself an average for the day and graph it. Sounds stupid - ok maybe it IS stupid - but when looking at your mood as a curve it's easier to map it against other things in your life (food intake, sleep, exercise, stress, sexual activity etc. etc.)

You exist!

I certainly don't feel productive; barely treading water and rapidly running out of energy. I suppose that's because I keep jumping on side things that aren't what I have targeted to be "my productivity". No progress on the things I'm measuring myself against == pain. Silliness. :)

Sun salutations are what I'm doing in the 30 minute video... for 10 minutes, maybe 15-20--hard to say. I'd say half the poses are one breath and half are ... three, which usually is closer to ten for me. ;)

Mood tracking like that sounds plausible. Know anything good online for such a thing? Maybe ... :heh: You know what's coming after that. :/

Heh I don't know if there is anything online, but I'll look around, I could use it.

As for what comes next...I specifically forbid you to begin work on a mood tracking system until January 2005. Unless of course you finish everything else before then... *wink*

You are GOOD at what you do, and you do a lot. It's ok sometimes to take stock, sit back and say, 'Damn, I kick ass!'. Cause you do...you really do.
