I couldn't sleep...

And, wracking my brain for something worthwhile, I finally came up with a puzzle idea I could do "in a couple of hours". Almost exactly 12 hours later, I present to you: Ice-9!

I hope.

I like the game concept and the violin music, but I find the rotating-blocks mechanic very difficult to control.

Any thoughts on what would make it smoother for you? I'm at the point where it's incredibly intuitive, after playing it for a few hours ;) Or is it just not responsive enough?

I think it's a fundamental thing with me and "rotate four squares clockwise about this point". I was consistently confused by what the squares did when I clicked, and it seemed to take an enormous number of clicks to move a tile any distance.

I'd find a bejeweled-style "swap these two tiles" mechanic much more playable.

I concur about the mechanics. However, I'd vote for a click on the block to move, and arrow to the direction you want to move it, maybe?

Or click source, click target?

But yes, the rotating does not deliver the expected results.

Also, I feel kind of stupid. I can't figure out how this is supposed to play. I line up blocks, and they don't disappear. It's only specific blocks? Arg. I'll keep playing.

I've updated the visuals a fair amount so all the different colors should be clear (some folks weren't seeing the different blues, or the blues + purple...). Also the rotating might be clearer now?

Fun! (Although I found myself really wanting to be able to rotate the blocks in both directions, rather than only clockwise.)

Thanks :D I was considering that--the obvious would have been right click, except flash wants that... maybe shift-click?

Shift click would work. Or you could do something like have spacebar toggle it between clockwise and counterclockwise.

I went with shift, if you want to try it. :) And I added some visibility to the movement direction.

It's updated some if you want to check it out. :)

And there's a public url if you want to share it about ;)

Either http://www.erif.org/code/Ice9/ or https://www.mochiads.com/games/ice-9
